Turquoise unwrapping

This hand built turquois burnished stoneware vessel by Tina Vlassopulos is entitled 'unwrapping'. Tina has mixed a turquoise oxide into the clay, then constructed the vessel using coils of the clay. Tina has hand burnished the vessel when leather hard giving the pot a silky sheen. The direction of her stroke whilst burnishing gives the pot a sandstone-like grain. Tina has etched her mark into the base (pictured). This vessel has not been glazed and cannot hold liquid. Tina Vlassopulos is pictured holding this vessel in her studio.
